More Troubles Faces APC As Wada Heads To Court
It seems the All Progressives Congress (APC) encounters more problems as the present governor of the state and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate, Captain Idris Wada has approached an Abuja federal high court to stop the supplementary governorship elections slated already for Saturday, December 5 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This is coming following the strange death of the APC candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu after the Saturday, November 21 inconclusive elections.
This new development is coming at the same time one of the APC’s governorship aspirant, Alhaji Idris Usman Maiyanga said he should be made Audu’s replacement as he polled the second highest number of votes cast at the party’s primary election which the late and former governor won.
Speaking further, Alhaji Maiyanga urged the nation’s electoral umpire to confirm him as Audu’s substitute instead of going through the rigours of conducting a supplementary election next week.
The APC aspirant wrote a letter to the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, which he also copied President Muhammadu Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi state APC chairman, stating in the letter that making him take the position of Audu will calm all frayed nerves in the state.
On the other hand, the Kogi state governor urged the Abuja federal high court to prevent the nation’s electoral body from supervising the election billed for Saturday, December 5 or any other stated date.
Wada is requesting an order from the court that will mandate INEC to hold a fresh governorship poll within certain period of time.
The governor through his lawyer, Chief Chris Uche (SAN) said he should be given the certificate of return by INEC and declared as governor as he is still alive and comes behind the deceased in terms of number of votes cast.
In a related development Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a legal practitioner has dragged the attorney general of the federation, Mallam Abubakar Malami and the electoral commission before the federal high court in Lagos on Thursday, November 26. He begged the court to direct INEC to cancel the Kogi election.
